《我的志願是做一個花瓶。》 是一件影像作品，透過追溯陶瓷花瓶的製作過程，講述某一個「花瓶」的歷史。作品從「我的志願是做一個花瓶」這句話開始，將花瓶視為不只是一件物件，而是一種由美麗、用途、展示與期待共同塑造出來的社會位置。
「做一個花瓶」這句話帶有明顯的性別意味。在華語語境中，「花瓶」常用來形容一個人，尤其是女性，被重視的是外表而非能力：漂亮、裝飾性、安靜，並被放置在一個供人觀看的位置。作品將這句話字面化，跟隨一件物件被製作成形的勞動過程。泥土被塑形、修整、撫平、燒製，最後準備被展示。美麗在此並不是自然出現的特質，而是透過壓力、重複與技術被生產出來的結果。
透過這個製作過程，《我的志願是做一個花瓶。》 思考成為美麗、合適與安靜之物的慾望與不適。作品追問：裝飾性的女性氣質背後隱藏着怎樣的勞動？一件被期待保持沉默的物件，又承載着什麼樣的歷史？成為花瓶，不只是成為一件裝飾品，也是一種被塑造、被陳列、被觀看的位置。
Vase Piece is a video work that traces the process of making a ceramic vase in order to tell the story of one “vase”. Beginning with the sentence “My ambition is to become a vase,” the work treats the vase not only as an object, but as a social position shaped by beauty, usefulness, display, and expectation.
The phrase “to be a vase” carries a gendered meaning. In Chinese-speaking contexts, it can describe someone, often a woman, who is valued for appearance rather than ability: decorative, silent, and placed for others to look at. By taking this phrase literally, the artist follows the labour of becoming an object. Clay is shaped, handled, smoothed, fired, and prepared for display. Beauty is revealed not as a natural quality, but as something produced through pressure, repetition, and technique.
Through this act of making, Vase Piece reflects on the desire and discomfort of becoming beautiful, acceptable, and still. The work asks what kind of labour is hidden behind decorative femininity, and what histories are carried by an object that is expected to remain quiet. To become a vase is not only to become an ornament, but to enter a condition of being formed, displayed, and looked at.
